I believe that the true focus lies somewhere between rage and tranquility.

Why do bad things happen to good people?

Ok, so I know that at some point in our lives this question has lingered on our tongues. We've thought about it, twisted it around and turned it over in our minds. We've pondered what the answer is supposed to be during the difficult times. I'll even admit that I don't... really know the answer yet.

On that note, I'm not sure if looking for an answer will bring comfort or relief to an individual.

Some people believe that "bad things" test us. We're supposed to grow and learn from the experience... become strong. Others believe things are just meant to happen that way. That it's inexplicable and we should accept it. Some people believe in changing fate or"running away from their problems -metaphorically speaking.

Personally, I believe that it's better not to ask this question at all.

And this is where my title comes in. Yes, it's a quote from somewhere. I can't remember where... and it didn't really make sense to me. Not until someone posed the question "Why do bad things happen to good people?"

So... that is my answer.

Don't focus on the bad things. Don't let it consume you or you'll never have direction in your life. Focus on the good memories and the connections you have that bring happiness. Then you'll find that you're a stronger person than you originally believed.

A plane letter and an inspirational song.

So, for those who know me in person, you are probably aware that I will be traveling overseas for the first time in the near future. When I told one of my best friends, she decided to give me a plane letter which I am itching to read. Like... right now. Pfft.

No seriously.

It's so tempting but I promised I wouldn't look at it until I'm on the plane to Bangkok. And since I pride myself on keeping promises, I will do as asked and experience a plane letter on the plane. Right? I should do that.

Anyhow, you're probably wondering what my point is, right? Ok, well actually... I don't have a point. I'm just excited to have my first plane letter :L

Moving on, I found this really good song the other day. It's called "I won't give up" by Jason Mraz who has a pretty damn good voice. If I may say so myself :P

I've got a link below if you want to check it out. I just really like the song... it'd be awesome to dance to, just sayin'. ^-^

Jeon Woochi

I'm definitely excited for this drama.

I was casually reading up on drama casting an news on Dramabeans and found this new and upcoming drama starring Cha Taehyun (awesomely funny guy from the second season of 1n2d).

"Cha Tae-hyun stars as the Taoist wizard Jeon Woo-chi whose source of strength is a gumiho’s fox bead. He’s from the fictional utopian land of Yuldo and the drama will begin with Woo-chi losing his mentor and father figure Hong Gil-dong, and the love of his life Hong Mu-yeon (played by UEE). She’s got a dual role to play as well, because she’s both his first love who’s lost to him at some point (it remains vague how), and also a dangerous baddie because she’s bewitched by a spell that makes her an emotionless killer. Eep.

Lee Hee-jun stars as Woo-chi’s nemesis, the dark Taoist wizard and all-around scary mofo. And the stills below feature our first glimpse of Hong Jong-hyun as the noble warrior who chases Jeon Woo-chi for the other thing — the breaking the law and being a hero thing. I’m holding out hope for a City Hunter / Prosecutor type of antagonism: enemies with a side of grudging respect and a hint of bromance. Yunno, as long as we’re making wish lists."

So basically it's going to premier on November 21, 2012 and I won't be able to check it out until my Holiday is over. Pfft.

Too true.

"I like books that aren't just lovely but that have memories in themselves. Just like playing a song, picking up a book again that has memories can take you back to another place or another time." -Emma Watson

The rose that grew from concrete

Did you hear about the rose that grew
from a crack in the concrete?
Proving nature's law is wrong it
learned to walk without having feet.
Funny it seems, but by keeping its dreams,
it learned to breathe fresh air.
Long live the rose that grew from concrete
when no one else ever cared.

Rhapsody on a Windy Night

by: T.S. Eliot (1888-1965)

TWELVE o'clock.
Along the reaches of the street
Held in a lunar synthesis,
Whispering lunar incantations
Dissolve the floors of memory
And all its clear relations,
Its divisions and precisions,
Every street lamp that I pass
Beats like a fatalistic drum,
And through the spaces of the dark
Midnight shakes the memory
As a madman shakes a dead geranium.

Half-past one,
The street lamp sputtered,
The street lamp muttered,
The street lamp said, "Regard that woman
Who hesitates towards you in the light of the door
Which opens on her like a grin.
You see the border of her dress
Is torn and stained with sand,
And you see the corner of her eye
Twists like a crooked pin."

The memory throws up high and dry
A crowd of twisted things;
A twisted branch upon the beach
Eaten smooth, and polished
As if the world gave up
The secret of its skeleton,
Stiff and white.
A broken spring in a factory yard,
Rust that clings to the form that the strength has left
Hard and curled and ready to snap.

Half-past two,
The street lamp said,
"Remark the cat which flattens itself in the gutter,
Slips out its tongue
And devours a morsel of rancid butter."
So the hand of a child, automatic,
Slipped out and pocketed a toy that was running along the quay.
I could see nothing behind that child's eye.
I have seen eyes in the street
Trying to peer through lighted shutters,
And a crab one afternoon in a pool,
An old crab with barnacles on his back,
Gripped the end of a stick which I held him.

Half-past three,
The lamp sputtered,
The lamp muttered in the dark.

The lamp hummed:
"Regard the moon,
La lune ne garde aucune rancune,
She winks a feeble eye,
She smiles into corners.
She smoothes the hair of the grass.
The moon has lost her memory.
A washed-out smallpox cracks her face,
Her hand twists a paper rose,
That smells of dust and old Cologne,
She is alone
With all the old nocturnal smells
That cross and cross across her brain."
The reminiscence comes
Of sunless dry geraniums
And dust in crevices,
Smells of chestnuts in the streets,
And female smells in shuttered rooms,
And cigarettes in corridors
And cocktail smells in bars."

The lamp said,
"Four o'clock,
Here is the number on the door.
Memory!
You have the key,
The little lamp spreads a ring on the stair,
Mount.
The bed is open; the tooth-brush hangs on the wall,
Put your shoes at the door, sleep, prepare for life."

The last twist of the knife.

Just a couple of things

Ok, so first I wanted to say that I recently redesigned my blog and I now have a translation bar on the right side. I will add more stuff, like a comment box [YAY!] and perhaps a link to my twitter page.

Also, just for the sake of random things, I decided to share some videos with you. The first one is of this guy, The Fellow Yellow (whose link can be found in my list of Fellow bloggers) who basically vlogs about everyday things. It's titled: "How to be a KPOP Star".

I would go into more detail... except I'm not so good at explaining things so I'll let you decide what you think of the video. All I have to say, is he's pretty funny.

The next two videos are of this variety show called 1n2d (1 night 2 days) and it's about these group of singers, MC hosts, comedians, wrappers etc. who get together on a trip each week for 1 night 2 days. Basically, they play different games to fight for a right to eat and sleep inside. This is the basic idea of it but it's helluva funny stuff watching them fail at everything.

Anyhow, these are short clips from different episodes on the show and well... see for yourself. I couldn't stop laughing xD

Ep 85- Lee Seunggi's breakfast mission

[A later episode]

So, I hope you enjoyed those videos as much as I did :L and until next time... I'm going to have chocolate. Been craving the stuff all day :P

Just a thought

Today I pose to you this thought,

"Music is both a gift and a curse."

It's something that I have considered recently. Ok, so you may be entirely confused as to why and how I came up with this, but hear me out first.

To me, music is something painful and wonderful all at once. It has the power to make me feel ecstatic, lost in my own world when I perform; but it also is the greatest source of pressure in my life. Without music, I don't have much left. I'm not exactly a genius in the academic department so... what I'm trying to say is that I've relied on music to make good impressions throughout most of my life.

There have been many times when I wanted to stop it all because of the struggle to increase my standards as a performer. In fact recently, I came this close to giving up entirely.

But... I didn't.

Instead, I realised that I can never stop performing. It's something that I can't ignore or push away. It is a part of me. If I did, I know it would haunt me forever.

This is why I say music is both a gift and a curse. For me, at least.

Fickle words...

Yep, It's me again.

Ok, I very rarely if ever, do these kind of philosophical blog posts... but today I just couldn't help myself. Maybe I am too tired or this is even perhaps a sign of insanity. (Trials have affected my brain.) Either way I'm doing this and no one will stop me.

So recently I've come to realise that trust can be blinding. After years of many experiences and good memories with a person, it is very easy to trust them with no hesitation. Makes sense, right? I mean, think about it. The people who are closest to you -your parents, siblings, friends and whomever else fits into that category- are probably people you would trust with your life (if we're talking about the great extent to which trust can exist). Even with acquaintances, you trust them with little things (obviously depending on the context of the situation).

For the record, I'm not paranoid about whether or not people back-stab me or anything like that, and it happens to everyone at some point. What I'm saying is that no matter how much you trust someone, that trust is limited.

It is also unpredictable. Take for example, when you first meet someone. It takes months or years to build up a certain amount of trust in that person -if you get along with them. Yet, in one moment it can be so easy to break that trust or friendship. Mind you, this depends on the severity of the situation.

I believe it is a constant tug of war for some people to open up to those around them. To talk about things that trouble them, especially when it's hard to explain, is a difficult task sometimes. Opening up, means revealing your strengths and weaknesses -something which people can easily use against you if they really wanted. And, this is where trust comes in. In trusting that person to not use anything against you, no matter how much they may end up disliking you in future.

This, is the essence of trust.

So... let me know what you guys thought about my post, if you want. You're choice, and I just wanted to have a random shout-out to my good friend Maria whom I haven't seen in a while, regrettably. I just want to say that I wish her good luck in her studies and I hope we can catch up soon. It's been way too long :)

That's it for now, cheers :L

Alexander Rybak and The Piano Guys

Hey again xD

Just wanted to share another couple of videos. The first one is of Alexander Rybak, who is an awesome violinist and singer. He speaks English as well (and apparently some other languages) but this is one of his Russian videos -so I have no idea what he's singing about in this one. It is apparently called "Cupid's Arrow" in English...or something like that. Don't shoot me if I'm wrong.

Besides that, I especially like the part where the little girl gives him a lolly. So cute :P

Ok, the second video is one that a friend showed me of this pretty cool cello song inspired by Beethoven's "Moonlight Sonata". It is played by The Piano guys on amplified cellos. So. Awesome. That's all I can say. You guys can judge both of these videos for yourselves.

That's it for now, hope you enjoy the videos :)

until next time,

Banana Pancakes

Hey guys,

Just thought I'd share a video today of one of my favourite songs "Banana Pancakes" by Jack Johnson because I was in the mood :)

Hope you like it...I just love the lyrics, so I'll post them next to the video.

Can't you see that it's just raining?
Ain't no need to go outside... Baby, you hardly even notice
When I try to show you this
Song is meant to keep you
From doing what you're supposed to.
Waking up too early
Maybe we can sleep in
I'll make you banana pancakes
Pretend like it's the weekend now

And we could pretend it all the time
Can't you see that it's just raining?
Ain't no need to go outside

But just maybe, laka ukulele
Mommy made a baby
Really don't mind the breakfast
'cause you're my little lady
Lady, lady, love me
'cause I love to lay here lazy
We could close the curtains
Pretend like there's no world outside

And we could pretend it all the time
Can't you see that it's just raining?
Ain't no need to go outside

Ain't no need, ain't no need, mmm, mmm,
Can't you see, can't you see?
Rain all day, rain all night.

The telephone is singing
Ringing
It's too early
Don't pick it up
We don't need to we got everything
We need right here
And everything we need is enough
Just so easy
When the whole world fits inside of your arms
Don't really need to pay attention to the alarm
Wake up slow, yeah, wake up slow

Baby, you hardly even notice
When I try to show you this
Song is meant to keep ya
From doing what your supposed to
Waking up too early
Maybe we can sleep in
I'll make you banana pancakes
Pretend like it's the weekend now

And we could pretend it all the time
Can't you see that it's just raining?
Ain't no need to go outside
Ain't no need, ain't no need
Rain all day and I really really, really don't mind
Can't you see, can't you see?
You gotta wake up slow

Anyways, I gotta go and study for Latin now :P
